About this position

Oslo Business School at Oslo Metropolitan University is offering a full-time, three-year PhD position in Organization and Management, with a particular focus on digitalization and datafication in organizations. The position is affiliated with the Organization and Management group, whose research spans arts management, leadership, organizational paradoxes, human resource management, professions, project management, and decision-making. The group employs diverse research methods, including surveys, experiments, and qualitative and ethnographic approaches, aiming to contribute to both theory and practice.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic academic environment and is expected to complete a doctoral degree during the employment period. The dissertation topic should align with the research interests of the Organization and Management group, with relevant contexts including creative, cultural, entertainment, media, and similar industries. The position is designed for graduates eager to advance research on the impact of digitalization and datafication in organizational settings.

Applicants should have a strong background in organization and management studies or related social science disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, information science, or business. A demonstrated interest in digitalization and datafication, preferably through qualitative methodologies, is essential. Candidates should possess excellent communication and analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine interest in pursuing an academic career in both research and teaching. Experience in qualitative research, such as ethnographic methods, participation in research projects, and academic publishing, will be considered an advantage.

Qualification requirements include an excellent MSc (120 ECTS) in a relevant field, with a grade of B or better on the master’s thesis and an average grade of B or better for the degree. Candidates must complete their master’s degree by 1 August 2026. Proficiency in English is required, and knowledge of a Scandinavian language is advantageous. Admission to the doctoral program is a prerequisite, and a finalized project plan must be completed within three months of employment.

The position offers a competitive salary (NOK 550,800 per year), beneficial pension arrangements with the Norwegian State Pension Fund, employee welfare benefits, and free Norwegian language classes. The working location is in downtown Oslo, providing access to a vibrant cultural scene. The university values diversity and inclusivity, welcoming applications from all qualified candidates.

To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter (including motivation and initial research ideas), CV, certificates/diplomas, master’s thesis, and any published works. Students nearing completion of their master’s must provide confirmation from their institution. The application deadline is 1 March 2026. For further information, contact Erik Døving, unit leader.
