About this position
CIC biomaGUNE is offering a PhD position in the Bionanoplasmonics Laboratory in San Sebastián, Spain, within the ERC-Synergy CHIRAL-PRO project. The research examines how amyloid proteins interact and assemble with chiral gold nanoparticles under different physicochemical conditions.
The doctoral researcher will investigate how metabolites, salt ions, pH, and membrane composition influence the nanoscale diffusion, forces, topography, and assembly dynamics of amyloid proteins. A central method will be time-lapse atomic force microscopy in liquid environments, enabling observation of protein oligomer formation and early aggregate development on biological membranes.
The project will then address how amyloid proteins interact with chiral gold nanoparticles of different morphologies, including the role of chirality-directed recognition. The final research stage will examine the combined effects of the physicochemical environment and chiral nanoparticles on amyloid protein dynamics and assembly in biologically relevant systems.
The work will be conducted in the Bionanoplasmonics Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Luis M. Liz-Marzán and Dr. Pamina Winkler. CIC biomaGUNE is an international research center specializing in bionanomaterials, synthetic bioengineering, molecular imaging, and regenerative medicine, with advanced technical platforms, scientific seminars, and training opportunities for researchers.
