About this position
The University of Bergen’s Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Dentistry, is offering two full-time (100%) PhD Research Fellow positions, each for a period of three years, with the option to hold a 50% position over six years if combined with other employment. These positions are affiliated with the department’s research groups, which include Tissue Engineering/Regeneration, Biomaterials, Oral Infections and Inflammation, and Clinical Dentistry. The department is committed to addressing complex societal challenges in oral health and dentistry through interdisciplinary collaboration and research. PhD fellows will design and conduct doctoral research projects aligned with the department’s strategic priorities and ongoing research, contributing to scientific publications and the dissemination of findings to both academic and non-academic audiences.
The department emphasizes an on-site working environment, encouraging active participation in its research community for professional development and collegial support. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Dentistry, demonstrate proficiency in Norwegian and English, and show motivation and ability to complete a doctoral research project. Experience in relevant research projects is advantageous. For candidates with education from outside Norway, certified translations of diplomas and transcripts are required, along with a review from the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) to confirm equivalence to a Norwegian master’s degree.
The positions offer a competitive salary (NOK 570,000–605,000 per year depending on qualifications), enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, and good welfare benefits. The application must include a brief account of research interests and motivation, certified copies of diplomas and transcripts, documentation of language skills, a complete list of publications, any publication in the applicant’s name, and two references. The deadline for applications is 16th November 2025.
For further information, applicants may contact Head of Research Cecilie Gjerde or Head of Department Asgeir Bårdsen. The University of Bergen is committed to diversity and inclusivity, encouraging applications from qualified candidates regardless of background. Successful candidates will be required to enrol in the university’s PhD programme and submit a project plan within three months of commencement.
The positions are fixed-term and cannot be held for more than one period at the same institution.
