About this position
Amsterdam UMC is offering a PhD position in spatial proteomics focused on frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The project aims to uncover the molecular and cellular causes of FTD that drive disease onset and early progression, with the long-term goal of supporting evidence-based treatment design.
In this PhD project, you will design and execute proteomics studies using human postmortem brain tissue from sporadic FTD patients and human iPSC-derived neurons. The research combines highly innovative single-cell and spatial (prote)-omics approaches to understand cell-type-specific vulnerability and the molecular dysfunctions that may contribute to FTD.
The role is suited to a highly motivated researcher with an interest in neurodegeneration, proteomics, and multi-omics data integration. You will work on experiments involving human brain tissue and neuronal cell culture systems, contribute to the analysis and integration of omics datasets, and help characterize cell-specific functional dysregulation and cellular crosstalk.
As part of the team, you will also contribute to scientific reporting, publications, and regulatory-ready data packages. Additional responsibilities include supervising undergraduate students, presenting your findings in regular meetings and conferences, and contributing to publications in reputable journals.
This is a PhD opening at Amsterdam UMC in the Netherlands. The application deadline is 2026-11-15. Apply through the provided AcademicTransfer link. If you are interested in translational neuroscience, spatial proteomics, and advanced omics technologies applied to human disease, this position offers a strong research environment in a clinically relevant setting.
