About this position
The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is recruiting a full-time PhD student in Landscape Governance and Management at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management in Alnarp, Sweden.
The doctoral project examines governance and organisational alignment in the operation and maintenance of urban drainage infrastructure, including multifunctional blue-green infrastructure. The research focuses on stormwater governance, stakeholder discourses, rules, resources, legal and policy frameworks, economic considerations, and strategies for coherent long-term maintenance. The broader interdisciplinary initiative aims to support data-driven and environmentally responsible maintenance, reduce pollutant loads to coastal and marine environments, and advance sustainable urban water management.
The successful candidate will conduct empirical and theoretical research, collaborate with stakeholders in the water and wastewater industry and green sector, and communicate findings through scientific publications, conferences, and industry engagement. The work is situated within SLU’s Landscape Governance and Management research group, an international team working on urban landscape governance, stormwater systems, and sustainable management.
Applicants need a Master’s degree or equivalent in natural resources engineering, civil engineering, landscape architecture or management, organisational or governance theory, or a related field. General doctoral eligibility, relevant higher-education credits, English proficiency equivalent to Swedish English B/6, strong written and spoken English, independence, initiative, and willingness to engage with new research areas are required. Swedish or another Scandinavian language and a Swedish-recognized driving licence are desirable.
