PhD Studentship in Pediatric Burn Rehabilitation University of Antwerp in Belgium

The University of Antwerp invites applications for a full-time PhD studentship in pediatric burn rehabilitation within the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Kinesitherapy and the MOVANT research group, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. This position focuses on the biopsychosocial determinants of recovery and physical activity in children with burn injuries. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, including questionnaires, physical assessments, and qualitative methods such as interviews and focus groups involving children, parents, and healthcare providers. The successful candidate will prepare and defend a doctoral thesis in Medical Sciences, publish scientific articles related to the project, and contribute to teaching and research support tasks in Rehabilitation Sciences and Kinesitherapy.

Applicants must have a master's degree in rehabilitation sciences and kinesitherapy, physiotherapy, movement sciences, or equivalent, or obtain it by the start date. Excellent academic results, a strong background or interest in pediatric rehabilitation, burn care, and biopsychosocial research methods, and the ability to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams are required. Analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, basic knowledge of statistical tools, and strong communication skills with patient populations are essential. Fluency in Dutch and English (reading, speaking, writing) and good oral knowledge of French are expected.

The position offers a doctoral scholarship for one year, renewable up to four years after positive evaluation. The monthly stipend is calculated according to the rates for doctoral scholarship holders in the Special Academic Personnel category.
