About this position
Nina Miolane is recruiting PhD students for Fall 2027 to join the UCSB Geometric Intelligence Lab at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
The lab investigates the mathematical laws of intelligence in brains and machines. Its research is highly interdisciplinary, combining artificial intelligence, computer science, mathematics, neuroscience, statistics, and physics. Students will explore how neural networks learn to solve tasks using geometric methods, topology, and group theory.
The research environment brings together physicists, neuroscientists, statisticians, mathematicians, and computer scientists. The lab operates within the broader REAL AI for Science ecosystem and is connected with UCSB Electrical and Computer Engineering, the College of Engineering, and the university’s AI Center.
PhD students may join through several UCSB departments, including DYNS, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and Physics.
