About this position
Syracuse University’s Institute for Quantum and Information Sciences is offering a postdoctoral position in the physics of learning and neural computation within Alexander Maloney’s research group, as part of the Simons Collaboration on the Physics of Learning and Neural Computation.
The postdoc will work at the interface of physics and machine learning, developing and applying physics-inspired tools to problems in artificial intelligence. The advertised research direction includes using field theory, random matrix theory, and statistical mechanics/disordered systems approaches to study neural networks and related learning systems.
Example topics named in the advert include neural scaling laws, phase transitions in neural networks, statistical models of data, and physics-inspired architectures. The position is broad in scope and explicitly welcomes applicants with wider interests in this rapidly evolving area.
The successful researcher will join a theory group that spans physics, mathematics, and computer science, with active programs in machine learning, theoretical physics, quantum information theory, and soft condensed matter physics.
