About this position
A 2-year post-doctoral position is available at the Institut des Systèmes Intelligents et de Robotique (ISIR), Sorbonne University, in Paris, France, on the HAPSEAT project, Haptic Seating for Wellbeing. The project focuses on human perception and haptics and aims to empirically validate the efficacy and safety of a haptic seating platform delivering multipoint vibrotactile stimulation for wellbeing applications.
The postdoctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Sinan Haliyo, Gilles Bailly, and Malika Auvray, and will join the ACIDE team at ISIR. The broader consortium includes Innovobot Labs, Nanomade, Ohmnum, Go Touch VR, and SU-ISIR, bringing together industrial partners and academic expertise to move the platform from prototype toward industrial maturity.
Research tasks include designing and running controlled studies with human participants, combining behavioural measures, physiological measures such as heart-rate and electrodermal activity, body-pressure mapping, and subjective reports. The scientific questions concern vibrator placement and tuning across body types, psychophysical thresholds, perceptual mapping of vibrotactile patterns, safe exposure limits for prolonged use, and the effects of haptic routines on stress, relaxation, and focus.
The role is situated in a strong multidisciplinary environment at Sorbonne University, with opportunities to engage with expertise in human factors, biomechanics, statistics, and signal processing, and to interact with consortium partners. The salary ranges from 2900 to 3400 gross per month depending on previous experience.
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in Experimental or Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, Biomedical Engineering, Cognitive Science, Psychophysics, or a related field. Experience in study design, ethics submissions, data collection, statistical analysis, scientific writing, and validation documentation will be important for the role.
The position is currently open and applications are accepted until filled, preferably before January 2027. The expected start date is between December 2026 and February 2027, with flexibility. To apply, candidates should send a CV, a brief statement of research interest, and the names and contact details of two references by email to the supervisors listed in the advert.
