About this position
The Center for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (CAMM) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on low-dimensional quantum materials within a newly funded NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center. The position sits in the Department of Physics & Astronomy and is embedded in a broad interdisciplinary research environment spanning physics, materials science, chemistry, mathematics, and electrical engineering and computer science.
The research program focuses on synthesizing epitaxial quantum materials by molecular beam epitaxy, with artificial intelligence-based protocols supporting materials growth and discovery. The successful researcher will work at the interface of quantum materials synthesis, characterization, and data-driven methods, contributing to a center effort aimed at both understanding complexity in quantum materials and developing new materials for extreme conditions.
Beyond synthesis, the role offers opportunities to broaden the research portfolio through in-situ scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, photoemission studies, and ex-situ transport, magnetic, and other physical property measurements. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to pursue independent scientific directions while collaborating closely with faculty, postdoctoral associates, and students across CAMM-affiliated departments. The position is on-site at the Institute of Advanced Materials & Manufacturing in Knoxville.
