About this position
This postdoctoral position is part of an interdisciplinary project on regulatory RNA networks in neurosecretion, exploring how non-coding RNAs shape gene expression in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. The work focuses on specialized neuroendocrine cell types such as ependymocytes, tanycytes, gonadotropes, and thyrotropes, with attention to how miRNAs, circRNAs, and mRNAs contribute to cell-specific regulation under homeostatic conditions and during energy imbalance or stress.
The successful candidate will join the Department of Non-coding RNAs at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznan, working under the guidance of Monika Piwecka. The project is embedded in a collaboration connecting research teams in Poland, Switzerland, and Germany, bringing together expertise in RNA biology, neuroanatomy, and bioinformatics. The position offers access to advanced research infrastructure and technologically sophisticated equipment at the institute.
The researcher will investigate regulatory RNA-mediated control of gene expression using mouse models, primary cell cultures, and immortalized cell lines. The project combines molecular, cellular, and transcriptomic approaches to generate high-throughput profiles of RNA species in specialized hypothalamic and pituitary populations. The work is intended to clarify molecular mechanisms underlying neurosecretion and to build a deeper understanding of how these RNA networks function in normal physiology and dysfunction.
Research activities include transcriptomic analysis, validation experiments, result interpretation, and dissemination through publications and conference presentations. The role also involves collaboration with international partners and co-supervision within the project team.

What's required
A PhD degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry or a related discipline is required. Applicants should have well-documented research output with Web of Science-indexed publications in RNA biology, broad experience in molecular biology, cell biology and/or biochemistry, and experience working with laboratory animals (mice) plus certificates to perform animal procedures and collect organs. Experience in molecular/cellular neuroscience and high-throughput data analysis is an advantage. Candidates should be eager to learn, able to work independently and analytically, and have very good spoken and written English. According to NCN rules, the doctoral degree must have been obtained no earlier than 12 years before the year of employment, with possible extensions for documented sickness, rehabilitation, childcare leave, and, for women, an additional 18 months per born or adopted child if advantageous. Additional NCN eligibility conditions about doctoral institution and postdoctoral internship may apply.
