About this position

Utrecht University’s Faculty of Science is advertising two openings in the Bhardwaj lab / quantitative genomics core unit (qGCu) at the Department of Biology: a postdoc in genomics methodology and applications and a bioinformatics engineer in genome technologies. The lab works at the intersection of single-cell genomics, single-molecule genomics, spatial genomics, regulatory genomics, epigenomics, and computational biology, with close links to the Genome Biology and Epigenetics division and the broader Utrecht Science Park community.

The postdoc role is aimed at candidates with a nearly completed PhD and strong wet-lab genomics expertise. The project focuses on developing, adapting, and scaling cutting-edge genomics methods, including single-cell and multi-omics approaches, to study cell identity and regulatory control. The engineer role is aimed at candidates with a master’s degree and bioinformatics/software development experience, supporting analysis workflows, data/software engineering, and dissemination of single-cell omics methods.

Both positions emphasize collaborative work, method development, and support for other research groups adopting quantitative genomics. Desirable experience includes epigenomics assays such as CUTnTAG, CUTnRUN, WGBS-seq, bioinformatics analysis of sequencing data, machine learning/data science, and programming languages such as C/C++, Java, or Rust. The postdoc also values experience with zebrafish, animal tissues, or in-vitro models.

Funding is provided as a salaried university position for one year (1.0 FTE) with a possible two-year extension after positive evaluation. The postdoc salary is €3,546–€5,538 gross/month; the bioinformatics engineer salary is €3,382–€5,057 gross/month. Both include holiday pay, year-end bonus, pension, and other employment benefits under the Dutch collective agreement.

The application deadline for both vacancies is 13 July 2026. Applicants should apply through Utrecht University’s online portal and submit a motivation letter, CV, and at least two references. The postdoc vacancy additionally requests a PhD certificate or a letter confirming the expected defense date.
