About this position
This postdoctoral position at Eindhoven University of Technology offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the European REACT project, which aims to reduce sedentary lifestyles among young adults through active environment design and behavioural interventions. The role is embedded within the Department of the Built Environment, specifically the Urbanism and Urban Architecture group, and focuses on the Healthy Cities research theme. The successful candidate will join an international consortium of universities, public organizations, sports associations, and industry partners, collaborating on research that integrates urban design, behavioural science, public health, and evaluation methodologies.
The main responsibilities include scientific coordination and delivery of REACT research and evaluation tasks. This involves leading the development of a comprehensive report on active design practices in Europe, conducting literature reviews, establishing conceptual frameworks, and identifying international best practices for active campuses and workplaces. The postdoc will also design and implement evaluation protocols for pilot interventions in France and Portugal, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess behavioural, physical activity, and well-being outcomes.
Applicants should have a PhD in urban studies, public health, behavioural science, mobility studies, environmental psychology, or a related field. Experience with literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and impact assessment is essential. The position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage research tasks independently, and excellent English communication abilities. Interdisciplinary and international collaboration experience is advantageous.
The position is part-time (0.1 FTE) for one year, with a salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (scale 10: €4,241–€5,538/month), plus a year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%. Additional benefits include high-quality training programs, technical infrastructure, on-campus childcare and sports facilities, unlimited access to the TU/e Student Sports Center at an affordable rate, partially paid parental leave, allowances for commuting, working from home, and internet costs, as well as support for international candidates (tax compensation scheme and moving expenses).
The university is located in Brainport Eindhoven, a leading tech region known for its vibrant academic community and strong R&D activity. Sustainability and integrated approaches to the built environment are central to the department’s mission. The postdoc will have access to world-class experimental facilities and will be part of a diverse and ambitious academic network.
To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter, CV with publications and references, and a list of up to five best publications via the online application portal.
