About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Human-Technology Interaction (HTI) group, working on an interdisciplinary project about human–AI interaction, gambling risk communication, and safer digital design.

The project, UI-PRIG (Understanding & Improving Product Risk Information in Gambling), is a two-year collaboration between TU/e and the Trimbos Institute. It combines Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), generative AI, behavioural research, and participatory design to improve how online gambling platforms present product information and risk information. The aim is to support more transparent interfaces that help users make informed decisions and reduce harm.

You will contribute to two open-source research tools: KanScan, an AI-supported website analysis tool for evaluating the visibility, clarity, accessibility, and interpretability of gambling-related risk information; and KanLab, a prototyping environment for generating realistic mock-up gambling websites and testing alternative design approaches. The work includes developing automated analysis procedures in Python, using browser automation and large language models, and validating the tools against human expert assessments.

In addition to technical development, the postdoc will design and run user studies such as cognitive walkthroughs, interviews, and co-design workshops with non-gamblers, prevention experts, and people with lived experience of gambling-related harm. You will analyse both qualitative and quantitative data and turn the findings into evidence-based design recommendations for researchers, regulators, and public health professionals.

The position sits in an interdisciplinary environment that includes expertise in HCI, artificial intelligence, games, behavioural science, and digital well-being. The successful candidate will contribute to scientific publications, practical recommendations, and open-source tools that support responsible digital information design.

Supervisor(s): Dr. Max V. Birk and Dr. Antonius J. van Rooij (Trimbos Institute).

Application deadline: 2026-12-02.

Institution: Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Netherlands.
