About this position
This postdoctoral position at Eindhoven University of Technology focuses on the development of integrated single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays for quantum computing applications. The research is embedded within the PhotonDelta National Growth Fund program, a major initiative to advance the Dutch integrated photonics ecosystem. The project is part of a nationwide consortium led by QuiX Quantum, aiming to realize large-scale photonic quantum computing using photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology.
The successful candidate will join the Photonic Integration group (PhI), a vibrant team of over 80 members, and work in the Nanolab@TU/e cleanroom facilities. The research will cover epitaxial stack design, device fabrication, and characterization, with the goal of integrating high-efficiency SPADs onto low-loss silicon nitride PICs. System-level testing will be conducted in collaboration with consortium partners, including Quix Quantum and other related projects. The postdoc will also participate in joint developments, such as creating ultralow loss III-V to SiN couplers through inverse design approaches.
Applicants should have a PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. A strong background in integrated photonics, semiconductor devices, and physics is essential, preferably with experience in avalanche diodes and other high-performance semiconductor devices. Skills in numerical modeling, optical/electrical/thermal design, and experimental work (including cleanroom microfabrication and chip characterization) are highly valued. The role requires excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
The position offers full-time employment for three years, with a competitive salary (scale 10: €4,241–€5,538), year-end bonus, vacation pay, and various allowances for commuting, working from home, and internet costs. Additional benefits include access to high-quality training programs, technical infrastructure, on-campus childcare and sports facilities, and support for international candidates (tax compensation scheme and moving expenses). The TU/e Postdoc Association provides tailored support, training, and networking opportunities.
Eindhoven University of Technology is a leading international institution located in Brainport Eindhoven, a world-renowned tech region. The Department of Electrical Engineering is committed to advancing knowledge in energy conversion, telecommunication, and electrical signal processing, with strong ties to high-tech industry and a focus on socially relevant challenges.
Applications should be submitted online via the provided link. Required documents include a cover letter, CV with research experience and publications, and contact information for three references.
