Ruhr University Bochum is recruiting a Postdoc for an ERC-funded project at the Chair of Social Cognition led by Hans Alves. The position is a full-time, fixed-term 5-year appointment starting on October 1, 2026.

The project sits at the intersection of social psychology and cognitive psychology, with a focus on intergroup similarity, inequality, and the formation of biased attitudes toward social groups. The broader research environment also includes work on attitude formation, person perception, stereotypes and prejudice, judgment and decision making, memory, perceptions of truth, and valence asymmetries. The group mainly uses experimental methods.

Applicants should have a PhD in psychology or economics. The ad especially welcomes candidates with experience in experimental research, interests in social psychology, cognitive psychology, judgment and decision making, or behavioral economics, and strong skills in R, ideally including multilevel models. A publication record with an experimental focus is expected. The role also asks for teamwork, curiosity, and interest in innovative research questions.

The post offers a salaried position under TV-L E13 (subject to the usual requirements), resources for study conduction and conference travel, an international network of collaborators, and the possibility of partially working from home or remotely. Teaching is optional.
