About this position

Aarhus University is recruiting a 3-year postdoc in Soil Ecotoxicology at the Department of Ecoscience, based in Aarhus, Denmark.

The project focuses on the fate and effects of contaminants in soil ecosystems, with research on how substances such as PFAS, microplastics, metals, biochar, digestate, and sewage sludge move through soils and affect soil organisms. The work includes adsorption/desorption, mobility, leaching, trophic transfer, ecological effects, and environmental risk assessment.

The postdoc will work with soil systems and organisms, including soil fauna such as earthworms, springtails, and mites, and will contribute to experimental and analytical research in interdisciplinary teams. There may also be involvement in environmental advisory work related to the Danish Soil Monitoring Law.

Eligibility: applicants should hold a PhD in environmental science, ecotoxicology, ecology, soil science, or a related field. The department particularly values experience in experimental and/or analytical work, interest in soil fauna ecology, and preferably knowledge of taxonomy and/or environmental DNA (eDNA) approaches. Strong English communication skills are required.

Funding and conditions: this is a paid, fixed-term academic postdoctoral appointment for 3 years. Salary is based on seniority under the Danish collective agreement. No scholarship or stipend amount is listed.

Application deadline: 1 September 2026, 23:59 CEST. Applications must be submitted in English through Aarhus University’s recruitment system and include a CV, degree certificate, publication list, future research plan, research activity information, teaching portfolio, and verified teaching experience if relevant.

Contact: Senior Researcher Marianne Bruus and Senior Researcher Stine Slotsbo are listed as contacts for further information.
