About this position
ForWind – Center for Wind Energy Research is advertising a Postdoc Position / Research Assistant (f/m/d) in Adaptive and Robust Control of Wind Farms at Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, Germany.
The role sits in the WESys research group and focuses on wind energy systems, control engineering, wind turbine dynamics, wake interaction, grid integration, and experimental validation. The successful candidate will design and validate control algorithms for wind turbines and wind farms that can balance multiple objectives such as power maximisation, system services, and structural load or noise reduction.
Research tasks include simulation-in-the-loop studies on an HPC cluster, followed by testing in wind tunnel or open-field settings. The postdoc will also coordinate collaborative work in a project involving industrial and academic partners. Depending on background and interests, the work may align with either Project A: loads-aware wind farm control and lifetime optimisation or Project B: control in complex terrain, uncertainty quantification, and improved grid integration.
The position is full-time (TV-L E13, 100%) and is initially limited until 31 March 2029. The post includes access to turbulent wind tunnels, offshore and onshore field measurement infrastructure, the DLR research wind farm WiValdi, multidisciplinary collaboration with ForWind and Fraunhofer IWES, modern office/lab space at WindLab Oldenburg, flexible/mobile working, and 30 days of vacation.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a qualifying master’s degree in Control, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Physical Sciences, Wind Energy, Renewable Energy or equivalent, plus a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or equivalent, preferably related to wind turbine or wind farm control. Strong control engineering knowledge, programming skills in Matlab or Python, very good English, and motivation for applied research are required. Experience with wind energy, several months abroad, and German skills are desirable.
Application deadline: 11 August 2026. Apply electronically by sending one PDF file to [email protected] with reference #WEB129. The application should include a motivation letter, CV, one-page research statement, transcripts, BSc/MSc and PhD diplomas, and employment references. An optional second PDF with a dissertation or relevant research papers may also be submitted.
