About this position
Amsterdam UMC is recruiting a Postdoc Researcher AI/Machine Learning for Multimodal Cardiovascular Data for the Horizon Europe project VASCUL-AID. The project is a €6.3 million, Europe-wide consortium coordinated by Amsterdam UMC and involving 16 partner organizations. Its aim is to build a trustworthy AI platform that can predict cardiovascular risk and disease progression in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and peripheral artery disease (PAD).
The research is highly interdisciplinary and data-rich. The consortium brings together longitudinal patient information from major European clinical centres, including electronic health records, proteomics, genomics, imaging data such as CT/MRI, wearable sensor data, and clinical follow-up. The postdoctoral researcher will lead the AI and machine-learning work, with responsibility for multimodal data integration, model design, development, and validation across the full modelling pipeline.
The role includes harmonizing heterogeneous clinical and molecular data, handling missing data and synthetic data approaches, coordinating data collection with the team, and developing robust, uncertainty-aware predictive models that clinicians can trust. The researcher will also contribute to graph-based modelling, foundation-model approaches, and biomarker discovery in collaboration with biomedical and clinical colleagues.
The position is embedded in the Department of Vascular Surgery at Amsterdam UMC, with close collaboration with vascular surgeons, clinical researchers, data scientists, and partner institutions across Europe. The postdoc will also help supervise consortium tasks and PhD researchers working on prediction models, making this a strong opportunity for candidates interested in leadership within an international translational research consortium.
This opening is especially relevant for applicants with interests in machine learning, multimodal health data, cardiovascular risk prediction, and clinical AI translation. The deadline stated in the post is 2026-11-06. Applicants should use the AcademicTransfer application link to submit their materials. More information about the project is available at www.vascul-aid.eu.
