About this position
Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee at the Advanced Photon Source in Lemont, Illinois, United States, to work on ultrafast microscale photonics and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) for X-ray optics.
The project develops highly nonlinear MEMS-based oscillators driven by storage-ring radio-frequency signals. The devices will support advanced manipulation of X-ray pulses at synchrotron radiation facilities and other accelerator-based photon sources. Research activities include MEMS design and simulation, device testing and characterization, feedback and control strategies, and time-resolved X-ray experiments using MEMS-based optics.
The appointment is normally two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year depending on project progress and funding. The expected hiring range is $72,879-$121,465, and comprehensive employee benefits are included.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field, completed within the past five years or expected soon. Preferred expertise includes MEMS materials and X-ray optics, MEMS measurement and simulation, signal processing, RF test instrumentation, feedback loops, control algorithms, and X-ray scattering. Strong communication, teamwork, research-output, and independent working skills are also required.
Applications should be submitted through the Argonne Careers Workday portal for requisition 422989.
