About this position
The Gregus/Buczynski Lab at Virginia Tech is recruiting a postdoctoral associate for a highly collaborative, extramurally funded research program centered on mechanistically driven treatments for chronic pain and alcohol use disorder. The project is translational in nature and combines behavioral pharmacology, molecular pharmacology, cell-based assays, and mass spectrometry to tackle clinically important questions with potential relevance to therapeutic development.
The successful candidate will join a team-oriented, supportive, collegial, and inclusive lab environment that emphasizes mentorship, professional development, and scientific independence. Postdoctoral fellows will gain hands-on training in experimental design, data analysis, and advanced methodologies while contributing to a program with strong connections across academia and industry. The lab highlights active collaboration with Scripps Research, Mayo Clinic, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Texas at Dallas, industry partners, and multiple Virginia Tech departments.
Research in the lab includes designing, executing, and analyzing both in vivo and in vitro experiments, interpreting results, presenting findings in lab meetings and conferences, and contributing to grant proposals and manuscripts. The position is designed to support publication leadership, project ownership, and career development for paths in academia, biotech, or pharmaceutical science. The role also offers opportunities to mentor junior trainees and build leadership experience.
Virginia Tech is a major research university in Blacksburg, Virginia, with a broad research ecosystem and strong emphasis on professional development. This postdoctoral opportunity sits within that environment and is aimed at a scientist interested in translational neuroscience and pharmacology.
