About this position
Shin Group @ MIT is advertising multiple postdoctoral associate openings starting in Fall 2026 in the area of energy systems optimization and modeling.
The group works on practical research problems in power grid operations and planning, electricity market design and analysis, energy storage for grid applications, and data center modeling and operations. Current project directions include GPU-accelerated grid optimization for DERMS and large-scale energy system planning, data center electricity demand modeling at fast time scales, long-duration energy storage valuation for reliability, electricity market design for flexible loads, and demand response modeling for multi-asset energy portfolios.
Applicants should have a completed PhD by the start date in Engineering, Operations Research, Optimization, Applied Mathematics, or a related field. The group also seeks strong backgrounds in mathematical modeling, mathematical optimization, systems engineering, control, power and energy systems, or operations research. The post emphasizes collaboration with industry partners and the ability to communicate effectively with practitioners.
The position is based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. To apply, send a CV, a brief research statement, and the names of two to three references to [email protected] with the subject line Postdoctoral Application.
Graduate opportunities are also mentioned for current and incoming MIT graduate students in Chemical Engineering, other engineering departments, the Operations Research Center (ORC), Computational Science and Engineering (CSE), and the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS).
