About this position
The nuclear physics group of Prof. M. Boër at Virginia Tech is seeking a postdoctoral research associate or senior research associate to join an experimental nuclear physics program centered on future measurements of Double Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering at Jefferson Lab.
The project focuses on detector and experiment development for measurements in Hall A with the SoLID spectrometer and in Hall C using a dedicated setup. The group is actively developing GEANT4 simulations and physics projections to inform the design of the SoLID muon detector and to support a proposal for a dedicated Hall C experiment.
The successful candidate will work closely with collaborators, including other postdocs and students, and will contribute to a research environment that combines simulation, experimental design, and preparation for future Jefferson Lab measurements. Applicants with data-analysis experience in the GlueX collaboration may also be considered for analysis work supporting the Generalized Parton Distributions program.
The appointment is based full time at Jefferson Lab in Newport News, Virginia, and is described as a limited-term research position within Virginia Tech’s nuclear physics group and broader research ecosystem.

What's required
All candidates must have a PhD in Experimental Nuclear Physics by the appointment start date. Postdoctoral Associate applicants must have earned their PhD within the past 4 years. Senior Research Associate applicants must have a PhD in Experimental Nuclear Physics and at least 4 years of prior postdoctoral experience. Candidates should have the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively, a strong record of research articles, conference presentations, experimental notes and/or peer-reviewed contributions, knowledge of Linux and coding in C/C++/Fortran or a similar language, software experience, and experience with GEANT4 simulations; data analysis experience is a plus, and experience with a Jefferson Lab experiment is preferred.
