About this position
IRB Barcelona is recruiting a Postdoctoral Bioinformatician Fellow to join the Biomedical Genomics Lab (BBGLab) led by Dr. Núria López-Bigas at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona).
The position is centered on computational genomics, bioinformatics, machine learning, and AI-driven scientific discovery. The successful candidate will help co-develop an agentic AI system to support human-AI scientific collaboration and investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis across different genes and tissues. The work is part of the international AURORA project, and includes designing and testing computational analyses, interpreting complex biological data, contributing to scientific discussions, and supporting project reports, meetings, and collaborations.
This is an excellent opportunity for a researcher with strong experience in biological data analysis, especially if interested in applying large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic systems to biomedical research. Experience in cancer genomics, pipeline development, and bioinformatics tools would be an advantage.
The position is based at IRB Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain, and is described as a full-time permanent postdoctoral role. The post is funded by Cancer Research UK through the project AI-Driven Systematic Discovery of Tumorigenic Mechanisms of Tumor Promoter Mutations (file number CGCAI2F-Jul26/100010).
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in Biomedicine, Biomedical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Informatics, Physics, or Mathematics; or a relevant MSc in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedicine, or a similar field. Strong programming skills in Python or R, hands-on machine learning experience, good English, independence, teamwork, and strong communication skills are emphasized.
Application deadline: 27 November 2026 at 12:00 (Europe/Madrid).
How to apply: submit your application via the IRB Barcelona recruitment portal using the official job link. For institutional information and contact, IRB Barcelona HR is listed at [email protected].
