About this position
The University of Cincinnati is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in acoustics and structural dynamics within the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering and the Metasonics Lab.
The fellow will conduct independent and collaborative research in acoustic and vibration sensing, ultrasonic systems, and wave-based metamaterials. Funded research areas include underwater acoustics, wireless ultrasonic power and data transfer, and 3D-printed acoustic materials. Activities will include experimental and theoretical research, device design and fabrication, acoustic characterization, wave-propagation and energy-transfer studies, underwater and enclosed-environment measurements, and development of custom scanning-hydrophone and underwater experimental platforms.
The role also involves multiphysics modeling, data analysis, scholarly publications, conference presentations, proposal development, sponsored research, laboratory documentation, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Applicants should have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Acoustics, Vibrations, Materials Science, or a related discipline. Strong experience in acoustics, ultrasonics, vibrations, transducers, signal processing, metamaterials, or multiphysics modeling is expected, together with MATLAB, Python, or comparable programming skills and a peer-reviewed publication record.
Preferred experience includes underwater acoustics or communications, wireless power transfer, advanced instrumentation, additive manufacturing, micro-structured materials, COMSOL, ANSYS, or federally funded research. The onsite position offers a competitive salary and benefits including health coverage, tuition remission, retirement contributions, paid leave, parental leave, and professional development support.
Applicants must apply through the University of Cincinnati applicant portal; external easy-apply submissions are not accepted.
