About this position
This postdoctoral position at Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute focuses on coupled physical-biogeochemical modeling to better understand harmful algal blooms in subtropical estuaries. The fellow will work on the Indian River Lagoon system and develop model capabilities to examine the physical and biogeochemical processes that control phytoplankton blooms, including the mechanisms that favor dominant phytoplankton groups and species.
The project is centered on predicting how water quality, phytoplankton blooms, and ecosystem condition may change under human activity and climate change, with attention to implications for seagrass and broader coastal ecosystem responses. The role combines model development, numerical simulation, and data analysis with scientific communication through presentations, manuscripts, and proposals.
The successful candidate will join a team of scientists at HBOI and the University of Georgia and will be based at FAU’s Harbor Branch campus in Fort Pierce, Florida. The position sits within a research-oriented environment that brings together modeling, field, and laboratory research activities, with opportunities to assist across those teams.
