About this position
The National Research Council Canada (NRC) is recruiting a two-year Postdoctoral Fellow in Ottawa through its Metrology Research Centre. The project, “Squeezing the Limits: A Quantum-Enhanced Raman Imaging Platform for Ultratrace Chemical Detection,” will develop a quantum-enhanced chemical imaging platform based on stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy.
The research will combine signal enhancement, background suppression, and quantum noise reduction to improve sensitivity in chemical imaging. Applications include tracking nanoplastics and screening critical minerals, with potential contributions to biological-process research, mining efficiency, and advanced materials characterization.
Candidates must hold a PhD in electrical engineering, optics, physics, engineering physics, or a related discipline, awarded within the past three years or expected within six months of appointment. Relevant experience includes quantum optics, nonlinear optics, atomic and molecular physics, optical components and systems, laboratory instrumentation, data analysis, and scientific dissemination. Programming, metrology, nanoscale materials characterization, nonlinear optical spectroscopy, and optical spectroscopy are advantageous.
The position is physically based in Ottawa and offers a salary of $83,985–$116,641, benefits, a travel fund, and potential relocation assistance. Applicants should submit a resume, one-page statement of interest, PhD transcript, and publication list by 7 January 2027 at 23:59 Eastern Time.
