About this position
The Physics of Information and AI Lab at the University of Waterloo, led by Achim Kempf, is recruiting for multiple postdoctoral research positions in a highly interdisciplinary environment that links foundational physics with modern AI methods.
The lab’s research spans questions at the interface of quantum information, quantum gravity, cosmology, and emerging computational approaches for quantum technologies. Current work includes quantum information methods for quantum gravity and cosmology, adiabatic, circuit-based, and measurement-based quantum computation, as well as machine learning for quantum technologies and quantum machine learning.
Researchers will join a group embedded in the Department of Applied Mathematics, with strong connections to the Department of Physics, the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC), and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. The advert also highlights collaborations with the National Research Council of Canada, IVADO in Montreal, and partners in Heilbronn, Germany.
The postdoctoral pathway includes both junior and senior fellowships, designed to support ambitious research trajectories and provide a strong runway toward future academic positions. The environment is described as supportive, inspiring, and research-intensive, with access to broader activity across Waterloo’s quantum and theoretical physics ecosystem.
