About this position
Uppsala University is recruiting a full-time postdoctoral researcher in biopharmaceuticals at the Department of Pharmacy in Uppsala, Sweden. The two-year temporary position focuses on developing AAV-based therapies for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders, with a starting date of 1 February 2027 or by agreement.
The research group develops biologic therapies for Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease using protein-based, antibody-based, and AAV gene-therapy approaches. The postdoctoral researcher will design, produce, purify, and characterize AAV vectors and evaluate therapeutic strategies through in vitro and in vivo experiments. Biopharmaceutical design, molecular cloning, sterile cell culture, animal studies, and translational neuroscience research will be central components. Teaching and administrative duties may also be included.
Applicants must have, or obtain by the employment decision, a PhD in molecular biology, biotechnology, gene therapy, neuroscience, or a related discipline, together with experimental experience in molecular biology, gene therapy, biologics, or a related field. Candidates must be willing to work with animal experiments. Experience with AAV vector engineering, purification, ÄKTA systems, cell culture, ELISA, flow cytometry/FACS, in vivo studies, neurodegenerative diseases, or teaching will be advantageous.
The application deadline is 16 November 2026. Applications should be submitted through Uppsala University’s recruitment system, including answers to the selection questions that replace a cover letter. For further information, contact Professor Greta Hultqvist at [email protected].

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field such as molecular biology, biotechnology, gene therapy, neuroscience, or a related discipline by the employment decision. Priority is given to candidates who obtained the degree no more than three years before the application deadline, subject to possible extensions for circumstances such as sick leave or parental leave. Experience in experimental molecular biology, gene therapy, biologics, or a related field is required. Candidates must be willing to conduct animal experiments. Preferred experience includes AAV vector design and optimization, AAV production, purification and characterization, molecular cloning, expression-vector construction, gene-therapy strategy development, AAV or protein purification using systems such as ÄKTA, sterile cell culture, ELISA, flow cytometry/FACS, in vivo experiments, neurodegenerative disease research, and teaching. Applicants should be curious, creative, motivated, able to work independently, take initiative, communicate effectively, collaborate well, and contribute to a positive research environment.
