About this position

A full-time postdoctoral position is available immediately in Dr. Wenjie Yu’s laboratory at the Lung Biology and Cystic Fibrosis Research Center, University of Iowa, Iowa City, United States.

The project investigates cellular and molecular mechanisms of airway remodeling in chronic muco-obstructive lung diseases, including cystic fibrosis (CF), primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The successful postdoctoral researcher will lead a well-developed NIH R01-funded project on airway submucosal glands, mucus hypersecretion, and airway host defense.

Research methods include histology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, organoid and tissue explant cultures, live imaging, animal models, and analysis of bulk, single-cell, and spatial transcriptomics datasets. The researcher will present findings at laboratory meetings and international conferences, publish manuscripts, and collaborate with center faculty, core facilities, and other research teams. Opportunities are also available to develop independent projects in lung biology and chronic airway disease.

Applicants must hold a PhD in biology, biomedicine, or a related life science field. Experience with histology, immunohistochemistry, cell or tissue culture, and in vivo mouse or pig studies is required; respiratory mouse or pig model experience is advantageous. A record of scientific productivity, such as first-author articles or manuscript drafts, is expected. The position is fully supported by a five-year NIH R01 grant and offers a salary of $63,480 to commensurate. Applications require a curriculum vitae and should be submitted online by December 1, 2026.
