About this position
DTU Energy at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a two-year, full-time postdoctoral position in amorphous energy materials for next-generation batteries, based in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.
The project investigates the synthesis, stability, and decomposition mechanisms of amorphous electrolyte and electrode materials for beyond-lithium-ion battery chemistries. The goal is to discover solution-processable materials that can enable improved next-generation batteries. Research will combine automated synthesis and testing with mechanistic studies, electrochemistry, solid-state chemistry, materials processing, and structural analysis.
The postdoctoral researcher will design and synthesize solution-processed amorphous energy materials; characterize thickness, ionic and electronic conductivity, stability, and morphology; investigate local structure, charge transport, and electrochemical performance; analyze data; collaborate on interpretation; and iteratively redesign materials.
A PhD or equivalent in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required. Experience with electrochemical characterization and solid-state chemistry synthesis and characterization is expected. Experience with spin, spray, or dip coating; SEM, XPS, XRD, or NMR; high-throughput experimentation; autonomous materials discovery; and OriginLab or Python is advantageous. Strong analytical and innovative abilities, independence, teamwork, and excellent written and spoken English are also required.
The appointment lasts two years and starts on 1 February 2027, or by mutual agreement. Salary follows the relevant Danish collective agreement, with possible supplements under DTU’s salary structure. Applications must be submitted online by 23 November 2026 at 23:59 Danish time, as one English-language PDF containing a cover letter, CV, MSc/PhD diplomas, and publication list. Further information is available from Professor Alex Rettie at [email protected].
