About this position

The Bone–Kidney Axis and Regeneration Laboratory at the City University of Hong Kong, led by Assistant Professor Ganesh Pathare, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher. The lab is part of the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences and focuses on the bone–kidney axis, a fundamental endocrine network linking mineral metabolism, aging, kidney disease, and regeneration. The research investigates the roles of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) and Klotho in regulating phosphate and vitamin D homeostasis, and how their disruption contributes to chronic kidney disease (CKD) in both humans and animals.

Current projects include studying mechanisms regulating FGF23 formation, the influence of FGF23 on bone remodeling, segment-specific roles of Klotho in renal tubules, and developing therapeutic strategies to suppress FGF23-mediated effects in CKD. The lab uses multidisciplinary approaches such as genetically engineered mouse models, advanced in vitro assays, transcriptomics, single-nucleus RNA sequencing, and analyses of human urinary exosomes. The long-term goal is to translate mechanistic insights into novel therapies for CKD and age-related mineral disorders, supporting the One Health initiative.

The postdoctoral position offers a competitive salary according to CityUHK guidelines, a dynamic international research environment, strong mentorship, and support for career development. Applicants should have a PhD in a related field (completed or thesis submitted within the past year), with at least one first-author publication in a reputed journal. Required skills include experience in animal (mouse) experimentation, cell culture, basic molecular biology techniques, and bulk RNA sequencing analysis. Experience with single-nucleus RNA sequencing and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing is highly desirable but not mandatory.

To apply, candidates should send a single PDF containing their CV, motivation statement, and reference details to Prof. Ganesh Pathare at [email protected]. For more information about the lab and research, visit the academic profile page. This is an excellent opportunity for researchers interested in translational research, regenerative biology, and kidney disease mechanisms to join a vibrant, multicultural team in Hong Kong.
