About this position
This postdoctoral position at ETH Zürich focuses on the development of a microfluidic (lab-on-chip) platform for the rapid diagnosis of sepsis, as part of the multidisciplinary RadiantDx project. The Bioanalytics Group, in collaboration with the Institute of Medical Microbiology at the University of Zurich and the Department of Informatics at ETH Zürich, aims to create a miniaturized system that supports clinical decision-making and improves patient outcomes by enabling fast, accurate sepsis diagnosis. The project integrates microfluidic technology, sequencing, and advanced data analysis, and is funded for four years.
The successful postdoctoral fellow will work closely with a PhD student and a larger team of computer scientists, clinicians, and microbiologists. Key responsibilities include designing and manufacturing the microfluidic platform, developing and optimizing biological assays, performing imaging and data analysis, preparing the platform for clinical use, publishing research findings, and coordinating with project partners. The position offers opportunities for skill development in writing, presentation, project management, and student supervision, as well as participation in international conferences.
Applicants should hold a PhD in microfluidics, microsystems engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related interdisciplinary field. Candidates with backgrounds in biology, bioengineering, biotechnology, or microbiology and experience in technology development are also encouraged to apply. Strong motivation to learn new methods, openness to interdisciplinary collaboration, and excellent communication skills in English are essential. ETH Zürich values diversity, equality of opportunity, and sustainability, providing an inclusive and supportive research environment.
Applications must be submitted online through the ETH Zürich application portal and should include a motivation letter, CV, degree certificates, and two reference letters. For further information, contact Prof. Petra Dittrich at [email protected] (no applications via email). The position remains open until filled.
