About this position
EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is seeking a postdoctoral scientist for research in integrated lithium niobate photonics within its Hybrid Photonics Laboratory.
The successful candidate will develop hybrid photonic platforms for frequency conversion, metrology, spectroscopy, quantum applications, sensing, and millimeter-wave or terahertz photonics. Work may include optical measurement setup design, high-frequency electronics, mechanical components, scalable nanofabrication on electro-optic platforms, photonic-circuit simulations, and automated measurement procedures.
Key responsibilities include advancing low-loss nanofabrication protocols in the cleanroom, developing optical and terahertz electronic nanostructures, characterizing fabricated devices, writing publications and patents, presenting at conferences, contributing to grant applications, supervising junior researchers, and leading international collaborations.
Candidates should have strong nanofabrication skills or a strong interest in acquiring them, together with an interest in integrated photonics, high-frequency electronics, quantum metrology, or electro-optic transduction. Thin-film lithium niobate experience is desirable but not required. Skills in Python, Matlab, LabVIEW, Inventor, Illustrator, Tidy3D, CST Microwave Studio, or COMSOL are advantageous.
This is a 100% position with a one-year renewable contract, starting 1 January 2027. EPFL offers a competitive salary, conference-cost coverage, advanced cleanroom and research infrastructure, and an international scientific environment. The position remains open until filled. Applications should be submitted online with a cover letter, CV and publication list, research statement, and details for three referees.
