About this position

Postdoc position in Integrated Lithium Niobate Photonics at EPFL, Switzerland.

The Hybrid Photonics Laboratory at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work in the fast-growing area of integrated lithium niobate photonics. The project spans integrated photonics, electro-optic transduction, high-frequency electronics, quantum metrology, spectroscopy, and terahertz photonics, with applications in frequency conversion, metrology, sensing, and quantum technologies.

The successful candidate will help develop hybrid photonic platforms and ultra-compact chips, contribute to nanofabrication and cleanroom work, design optical measurement setups, automate measurement routines, and explore novel optical-terahertz electronic nanostructures and integrated photonic circuits. The role also includes scientific writing, patenting, conference dissemination, international collaboration, and mentoring younger scientists.

Eligibility highlights: strong interest in integrated photonics, high-frequency electronics, quantum metrology, and/or electro-optic transduction; strong nanofabrication skills; experience with thin-film lithium niobate is desirable but not mandatory; simulation and modelling skills in tools such as Python, Matlab, Labview, CST Microwave Studio, Comsol, Tidy 3D, Inventor, and Illustrator are valued.

Funding and conditions: competitive salary, conference cost coverage, 100% activity rate, CDD contract, 1-year duration renewable.

Application: apply only through the EPFL online platform. Prepare a brief cover letter, a CV with publication list, a research statement, and contact details for three referees. The position remains open until filled. A short motivation statement explaining why you want to join the group is highly recommended.

Contact: [email protected] for questions.

Funding details

Competitive salary is offered, with coverage of conference costs. The contract is full-time (100%), fixed-term CDD for 1 year renewable.

What's required

Applicants should have a strong interest in integrated photonics, high-frequency electronics, quantum metrology and/or electro-optic transduction. Strong nanofabrication skills are mandatory, with prior experience in thin-film lithium niobate desirable but not required. Strong simulation skills in Python, Matlab, Labview, Inventor, Illustrator, Tidy 3D, CST Microwave Studio and Comsol are desired, along with analytical skills for modelling photonic systems, a hands-on attitude, and interest in collaboration and leadership.

How to apply

Apply only through the online platform. Submit a brief cover letter, a single PDF containing your CV with publication list, a research statement, and contact details for 3 referees. Include a short statement explaining why you want to join the group and your interests.
