About this position
Washington State University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a project in molecular plant–microbe interactions, with an emphasis on rhizobia bacteria and legume crops.
Supported by a USDA grant, the project will investigate whether rhizobia strains can be optimized to improve environmental stability and increase the tolerance of legume plants to field stressors. The research addresses the diversity of rhizobia found in agricultural environments and the limited understanding of how inoculants and plant–microbe interactions can be optimized to promote nitrogen fixation while supporting crop performance.
The postdoctoral researcher will study rhizobia diversity and its impacts on legume crop production through work conducted in the greenhouse, laboratory, and field. The role will also involve molecular research to identify the mechanisms governing rhizobia–legume interactions, nitrogen fixation, and plant responses to stress.
The position is based in the research environment of David Crowder’s lab at Washington State University and combines agricultural field research with laboratory and molecular biology approaches.
Funding details
The position is supported by a USDA grant. No stipend, salary, tuition, or other compensation details are stated.
What's required
Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents due to the conditions of the USDA award. The postdoctoral researcher will need to conduct greenhouse, laboratory, and field studies of rhizobia diversity, legume crop production, nitrogen fixation, and the molecular mechanisms governing plant–microbe interactions.
