About this position
EPFL PV-Lab in Neuchâtel is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in photovoltaic recycling and circularity. The position sits at the interface of research, technology development, project management, and industrial collaboration, with a strong focus on sustainable photovoltaic technologies.
The successful candidate will develop and optimize recycling approaches for silicon-based and other PV modules, including mechanical, thermo-mechanical, delamination, and advanced separation processes. Research will address recovery pathways for glass, polymers, encapsulants, backsheets, silicon cells, metals, and composites, with attention to reuse, remanufacturing, high-value recycling, recovery yield, purity, energy use, environmental impact, scalability, and economic relevance.
In addition to laboratory research, the role includes coordination of collaborative national and European R&D projects, including potential work-package leadership, reporting, meetings, milestones, deliverables, and technical communication. The postholder will also supervise PhD, Master’s, and junior researchers and contribute to publications, conference presentations, proposals, and funding applications.
Applicants should have a PhD in photovoltaics, materials science, polymer science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, recycling technologies, environmental engineering, or a closely related field. A strong background in photovoltaic recycling or end-of-life PV technologies is highly valued; candidates with polymer or composite recycling expertise and a clear interest in photovoltaics are also encouraged. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experimental experience, material characterization skills, quantitative data analysis ability, strong publication output, excellent English, and strong project-management and interpersonal skills.
The contract starts on 01/01/2027 and is offered as a 1-year renewable CDD at 80-100% activity rate. The post is based at EPFL PV-Lab in Neuchâtel, within an international, multidisciplinary environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and strong links to academia and industry.
