About this position
Uppsala University is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher in Practically Usable Verification for Numerical Programs, hosted by the Department of Information Technology's Division of Computing Science and Programming Languages group in Uppsala, Sweden.
The project aims to help developers write correct and efficient numerical programs through new theoretical techniques and practical implementations. Research will address numerical software used in safety-critical embedded systems, data analysis, weather forecasting, physics, and engineering. Potential topics include automated program verification, floating-point arithmetic and rounding errors, specification inference, fault localisation, and optimisation approaches for usable verification tools.
Applicants must have a PhD in computer science or an equivalent foreign degree in a relevant area such as programming languages, program verification, or software engineering. A completed degree is required by the employment decision, and priority is given to recent graduates. Fluency in written and spoken English and good programming skills are required, alongside evidence of independent research, scientific publication, conference presentation, and effective collaboration.
The appointment lasts two years, is full time, and begins on 1 February 2027 or by agreement. Duties include research administration and project meetings, with up to 20% teaching depending on interest and course availability. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, research statement, diplomas and grades, publication list, and contact information for at least two references.
