About this position

This postdoctoral position is hosted by the Department of Energy at Politecnico di Milano, on the Bovisa campus, within the academic area of thermal sciences, energy technology, building physics and nuclear engineering. The project is centered on the analysis of safety and reliability for critical systems and plants, with particular attention to nuclear, oil and gas, energy, and infrastructure applications.

The research will focus on methods and models for risk analysis, reliability, maintenance, risk and resilience assessment, and dynamic decision support for critical systems. A major theme is the possible integration of artificial intelligence techniques to model aging, degradation, component failure processes, and the effects of climate change, including increasingly frequent and intense extreme weather events. The work is explicitly oriented toward sequential design and maintenance decisions, combining analytical modelling with advanced data-driven methods.

The appointee will also contribute to teaching and third-mission activities through the LASAR3 group, including activities in Master of Science and continuing education courses. The teaching component is linked in particular to the use of AI in Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety analysis, placing the project at the intersection of nuclear engineering, systems safety, and intelligent decision support.

The contract is a 24-month postdoctoral appointment funded within the HE SAFEPOWER project and is part of a broader research environment at Politecnico di Milano that combines nuclear engineering expertise with reliability and safety analysis.
