About this position
The Center for Catastrophe Modeling and Resilience (CAT) at Lehigh University is offering a postdoctoral research associate position focused on catastrophe modeling, flood hazard analysis, and resilience assessment. The postdoc will join an active research center and contribute to a new multi-university consortium, working in the research groups led by Ethan Yang and Hong-Yi Li.
The project centers on advancing methods for flood hazard modeling and flood risk and loss estimation, including riverine, pluvial, and compound flooding. A major theme is the integration of artificial intelligence into catastrophe modeling, with particular attention to large language models for supporting model development, automating workflows, and turning model outputs into actionable risk insights.
The successful candidate will carry out collaborative research, develop innovative approaches for resilience assessment, and contribute to the center’s broader research agenda. The role also includes participation in research group activities, center seminars, workshops, and other scholarly events, as well as opportunities to work across disciplines within and beyond Lehigh.
This position offers a strong research environment within a center that supports graduate and undergraduate mentoring, collaborative proposal development, and engagement with a multidisciplinary academic community. The posting emphasizes the center’s track record of helping postdocs move into academia, industry, or government.
