About this position

UNSW’s Climate Change Research Centre (CCRC) is advertising a 2.5-year postdoctoral research associate position in climate science, atmospheric science, and Earth science, based in Sydney, Australia. The project focuses on sub-daily rainfall extremes and their links to flash flooding, using weather radar observations, reanalysis, bespoke model experiments, and regional climate projections (including NARCliM, CMIP, and CORDEX).

The role sits within the CCRC and collaborates closely with the UNSW Water Research Centre, the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, and the NSW State Emergency Service. The post reports to Professor Jason Evans and is also associated with Fiona Johnson and Tim Raupach. The successful applicant will contribute to collaborative research, co-design with stakeholders, publication in high-ranked journals, conference presentations, and potentially PhD supervision and other CCRC/WRC activities.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Physical Climate Science, Climate Modelling, Atmospheric Science, or a related field; strong independent and team-based research ability; strong publication record; excellent analytical, communication, and programming skills; and experience with Unix/Linux, Python or R. Knowledge of regional climate processes, land-atmosphere interactions, atmosphere dynamics, weather radar data, and regional climate projections is preferred.

Funding and terms: fixed-term full-time appointment at Level A with salary of AUD 113k–121k plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading. This is an ARC Linkage-funded research role.

Application window: advertised 30 Mar 2026; applications close 2026-04-27. Apply online via the UNSW careers portal and ensure your application addresses the selection criteria.
