About this position
This postdoctoral research associate position at Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Uvalde, Texas focuses on monitoring and modeling evapotranspiration (ET) and improving irrigation management for field and high-value crops, including cotton, spinach, onions, and corn.
The successful researcher will work in a team environment using eddy covariance ET sensors, root-zone soil moisture sensors, and computer modeling tools to predict crop ET under field conditions. The project combines field measurements, sensor telemetry, and model-based analysis to understand seasonal crop water use and support irrigation decision-making.
Day-to-day work includes planning and installing equipment and sensors, collecting and organizing samples for plant growth and related biochemical analysis, documenting data and meta-data, and using web-based ET modules to analyze crop water use. The role also includes participation in planting, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting experimental plots, along with travel to field sites, growers’ farms, and conferences when needed.
The appointee will also contribute to research outputs by analyzing data for publication, preparing technical progress reports, and supporting presentations for field days and professional conferences. There is also a mentoring component, with opportunities to assist and supervise student researchers and graduate students involved in the project.
The position is embedded in Texas A&M AgriLife Research, part of Texas A&M AgriLife’s broader agriculture and life sciences network.
