About this position
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Experimental Geochemistry within the Geochemistry and Interfacial Sciences Group, Chemical Science Division, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States.
The project focuses on the stability of precipitated amorphous materials, their reactivity, and mineral formation pathways, including amorphous-to-crystalline transitions and the behavior of critical elements in minerals. The work connects strongly with geochemistry, earth science, chemistry, materials science, and related characterization methods.
Research activities include wet chemical experiments, neutron and X-ray scattering/spectroscopy, in situ observation of reaction kinetics and mechanisms, and analysis of scattering data with workflow development. The successful candidate will collaborate with scientists at ORNL and may use DOE user facilities such as the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and the Advanced Photon Source (APS).
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in geosciences, chemistry, materials sciences, material chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field completed within the last 5 years; experience with synthesis and characterization of minerals or nanomaterials; and strong communication and research productivity. Preferred experience includes wet chemistry, mineralogy, Raman/SEM/EPMA/XAS, and prior work in user facilities.
The appointment is up to 24 months with possible extension, depending on performance and funding. ORNL offers competitive pay and benefits, but no specific stipend amount is listed.
How to apply: submit your application through the ORNL jobs portal and include three letters of reference. References may be uploaded directly or emailed to [email protected] with the position title and number in the subject line.
