About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher – Quantum Dot Carrier Dynamics
The National Laboratory of the Rockies in Golden, Colorado, United States, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to study quantum dot (QD) photodynamics and carrier dynamics within its Materials, Chemical, and Computational Sciences Directorate. Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science Basic Energy Sciences program, the project investigates photogenerated charge and spin separation, transfer, and interfacial processes in quantum dots and related nanostructured semiconductors.
The researcher will use synthetic chemistry to modify quantum dot composition and morphology, apply spectroscopic characterization to connect structural changes with primary photochemical events, and tune surface chemistry to control interfacial spin, charge, and energy transfer. Techniques may include steady-state UV-visible, infrared, Raman, photoluminescence, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, as well as time-resolved infrared, EPR, transient absorption, microwave, and terahertz spectroscopies.
This is a cross-disciplinary team-science opportunity involving physical chemists, inorganic chemists, materials scientists, and theorists. The successful candidate will contribute to experimental design, data analysis, scientific presentations, manuscript writing, and publication, with emphasis on understanding fundamental photochemical systems rather than optimizing device performance.
Applicants must have completed a PhD within the last three years in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Preferred qualifications include experience synthesizing or characterizing quantum dots or related semiconductor nanostructures, modulating interfacial chemistry, or conducting semiconductor photoelectrochemistry and spectro-electrochemistry. The initial appointment is one year, with a preferred extension up to three years total depending on performance, mutual satisfaction, and funding availability.
The position is full time at 40 hours per week and offers an annual salary of $76,600–$126,400, plus eligible benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, paid leave, and holidays. Applicants should submit an online application, cover letter, and resume through the Workday portal. DOE access requirements, a favorable background investigation, PIV eligibility, work authorization, and a pre-employment drug test apply.
