About this position

Northeastern University’s Movement Neuroscience Lab is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to provide scientific and operational leadership for clinical trials investigating neuromodulation for pain and muscle function in orthopedic conditions.

The lab studies arthrogenic muscle inhibition, treating pain and muscle weakness as interconnected features that share nervous-system pathways. Research populations include people with knee osteoarthritis, ACL injury and reconstruction, patellofemoral pain, and knee replacement. The postdoctoral researcher will lead the day-to-day conduct of two ongoing trials focused on pain pathways and neuromodulation.

The project combines human neurophysiology, motor control, rehabilitation science, clinical research, and biomechanics. Core activities include collecting and analyzing data from transcranial magnetic stimulation, electromyography, quantitative sensory testing, and isokinetic dynamometry. The researcher will help maintain analysis pipelines and data quality across study sessions while contributing to a research direction focused on personalizing and optimizing neuromuscular electrical stimulation.

The role also involves preparing manuscripts, conference abstracts, and grant applications; developing an independent line of research within the lab’s scope; maintaining regulatory and data-integrity processes; and contributing to the lab’s neuromuscular electrical stimulation platform, with emphasis on individualization, usability, and adherence. The researcher will work across clinical and engineering teams and train and mentor doctoral and undergraduate students in data collection and analysis.

This opportunity offers an interdisciplinary research environment centered on pain neuroscience, neuromodulation, human movement, clinical trials, and technology-enabled rehabilitation at Northeastern University’s Boston campus.

Funding details
