About this position
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Marsico Lung Institute and Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine invite applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position focused on mucin and mucus biology.
The research will quantify and characterize mucin macromolecules in health and diseases involving mucus abnormalities, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and cystic fibrosis. The project will use biochemical and biophysical characterization, proteomics, light scattering, and labeled mass spectrometry-based quantitation technologies to address fundamental questions in innate lung defense.
The selected postdoctoral researcher will join a highly equipped laboratory led by Professor Mehmet Kesimer and develop skills in macromolecule quantitation, mucin biochemistry, lung biology, and interdisciplinary biomedical research. The position is based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in biological science or a related discipline. Preferred experience includes biochemistry, macromolecule quantitation, measurement quality control and validation, scientific productivity, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
This is a 12-month full-time temporary postdoctoral appointment. Compensation is dependent on experience and qualifications. UNC-Chapel Hill provides postdocs with medical and vision coverage, paid leave, and professional-development benefits. Applications should include a CV or résumé and list of references; a cover letter and writing or research sample may also be submitted.
