About this position
Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity at the University of Cambridge, based in the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, working with the Deane and Rayner laboratories.
The project focuses on the function of a multi-gene family expanded in Plasmodium vivax and related neglected human malaria parasites, with emphasis on tryptophan-rich antigens (TRAgs), lipid binding activity, and structural/functional studies of purified proteins.
This is a fixed-term, full-time post for 6 months and is aimed at an experienced postdoctoral researcher with strong expertise in protein expression, structural biology, X-ray crystallography, and biophysical characterisation of protein interactions. Helpful additional experience includes computational modelling, molecular biology, cloning, mutagenesis, and understanding of pathogen-host pathways.
The role is research-intensive and collaborative, with scope to contribute to high-quality papers and work across an interdisciplinary team. Applicants should also have evidence of strong publication output, including first-author peer-reviewed papers.
Salary: £37,694-£46,049. Closing date: 8 November 2026. Apply online through the Cambridge recruitment portal, upload a covering letter and CV, and include referee details. Quote reference SD51362.

What's required
Applicants must have demonstrable experience in protein expression using HEK293F-based mammalian expression systems, structure determination including X-ray crystallography of protein-ligand complexes, and biophysical characterisation of protein interactions such as biolayer interferometry or isothermal titration calorimetry. Desirable skills include computational modelling of protein complexes and protein-ligand complexes, molecular biology for cloning and mutagenesis of expression constructs, understanding of pathogen-host interactions, and evidence of high-quality output through first-author peer-reviewed publications.
