PhD project: The life cycle of ecDNA at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, United Kingdom . This project focuses on ecDNA (extrachromosomal DNA) in cancer, with emphasis on DNA replication , mutagenesis , replication stress , genomics , and molecular biology . The lab is interested in how ecDNA circles replicate, how stalled forks are rescued, and how ecDNA can reintegrate into the host genome to form homogenously staining regions (HSRs). The work also con...

Fully funded PhD studentship at the University of Cambridge in parasite biology and structural cell biology. The project, in Aakash Mukhopadhyay’s lab, investigates how parasites remodel their flagella and adapt these conserved cellular machines to specialised lifestyles. The work compares flagellar systems across Leishmania , Trypanosoma , and Plasmodium to understand how parasite-specific molecular innovations shape flagellar function. This interdisciplinary PhD combines AI-assisted structural...

About this position

The Deane and Rayner laboratories at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, University of Cambridge, are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate for a fixed-term, full-time project in biology, medical science, structural biology, and parasite-host interaction research.

The project investigates a multi-gene family expanded in Plasmodium vivax and related neglected human malaria parasites, with a focus on tryptophan-rich antigens (TRAgs) and their lipid-binding activity. The successful candidate will produce high-quality purified TRAg proteins for structural and functional studies and contribute to collaborative papers within an interdisciplinary team.

Key technical experience required includes protein expression in HEK293F mammalian expression systems, X-ray crystallography of protein-ligand complexes, and biophysical interaction analysis using methods such as biolayer interferometry or isothermal titration calorimetry. Desirable experience includes computational modelling of protein complexes, cloning, mutagenesis, and broader molecular biology approaches. A strong publication record with first-author peer-reviewed papers is expected.

The post is based at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in Cambridge, England, United Kingdom. The appointment is available for 6 months from the start date. No scholarship-style funding, tuition waiver, or stipend is described; this is a research staff position.

Deadline: 8 November 2026.

How to apply: Apply online through the University of Cambridge vacancy portal. Upload a covering letter and CV, and provide referee details including email address and phone number. Quote reference SD51362 in your application.

Funding details

Fixed-term full-time post for 6 months. No stipend or tuition funding is mentioned; this is a salaried postdoctoral research position.

What's required

Applicants must have demonstrable experience with protein expression using HEK293F-based mammalian expression systems, structure determination including X-ray crystallography of protein-ligand complexes, and biophysical characterisation of protein interactions such as biolayer interferometry or isothermal titration calorimetry. Desirable skills include computational modelling of protein and protein-ligand complexes and molecular biology for cloning and mutagenesis of expression constructs. A strong publication record with first-author peer-reviewed papers is required, and an understanding of pathogen-host cell pathways is advantageous. Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.

How to apply

Apply online via the University of Cambridge/jobs.ac.uk application portal. Upload a covering letter and CV, and include referee details with email addresses and phone numbers. Quote reference SD51362 in your application and correspondence.
