About this position

The University of Manchester is recruiting a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Kulathu group in the Division of Molecular and Cellular Function, School of Biological Sciences.

The project investigates how different ubiquitin signals direct cellular outcomes, with a focus on polyubiquitin chains and cellular quality control. The researcher will develop a nanobody toolkit to recognise distinct polyubiquitin linkages and enable new experiments in ubiquitin biology. The work combines protein biochemistry, molecular biology, quantitative binding assays, protein engineering, structural biology, proteomics, cellular imaging and cell biology.

The successful candidate will contribute to a BBSRC-funded programme, work in a multidisciplinary team and have opportunities for scientific ownership and mentoring toward research independence. A background in protein biochemistry, molecular biology or molecular recognition is required, along with a clear interest in ubiquitin signalling. Experience with protein engineering, protein-protein interactions or cellular imaging is advantageous.

The position is based at the University of Manchester on Oxford Road, United Kingdom. It is a 36-month, full-time appointment with a salary of £38,448–£41,885 per year, depending on experience. Applications close on 13 November 2026. Applicants should submit one PDF containing a CV and cover letter through the University of Manchester jobs portal.
