About this position
This part-time postdoctoral fellowship sits within the Centre for Education and Research on Ageing at the University of Sydney and supports an NHMRC-funded program focused on improving care for older adults in hospital. The project, “Optimising Care for Older Adults in Hospital: Innovative Education & Consumer Voices in Junior Doctor Education”, combines ageing research, geriatric care, and medical education to strengthen how junior doctors learn about the care of older people.
The successful candidate will join a team led by Dr Janani Thillainadesan and work across the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Concord Hospital and the University of Sydney Concord Clinical School. The role is embedded in a collaborative research environment that brings together academic researchers, NSW Health clinicians and services, older adults, carers, and community representatives.
The fellow will help drive the research program through original and collaborative work, including coordination of consumer research advisory group activities, co-design workshops, qualitative and quantitative study work, and research planning. A major part of the role is working closely with older adults and carers as co-investigators, supporting meaningful consumer engagement across the research lifecycle and contributing to translational outcomes in hospital care and junior doctor education.
The position also involves producing high-quality manuscripts and conference presentations, supporting grant and ethics applications, maintaining project timelines and governance processes, and contributing to the team’s broader research agenda in ageing, medical education, and health service collaboration.
